WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Jennies softball team picked up a doubleheader split with Missouri Southern, winning 4-0 in game one before falling 8-1 in game two at the South Recreation Complex on Friday afternoon.

In the opener, the two foes played two scoreless innings before the Jennies (26-20, 13-11 MIAA) plated three runs in the bottom of the third. Jessica Neely was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stole second and eventually scored on a single by Braylyn Bivens. Lindsey Dawson singled to set up first and third for Jakki Prater who doubled home Bivens, making it a 2-0 ballgame.

After a fielding error by Missouri Southern's starting pitcher Sarah Williams kept the inning alive, Lauren Mabe's sacrifice fly brought the Jennies' third run across.

The Jennies gave themselves a four-run cushion in the bottom of the sixth on a leadoff homerun off the bat of Mabe, her 10th this season.

UCM starter Katie Shockley picked up her 11th win on the season, throwing a nine-hit shutout. The junior walked a batter and tallied six strikeouts.

Bivens, Rogers and Mabe each collected two hits in the victory.

In game two, Missouri Southern got on the board quickly on an RBI single from Shelby Romines in the top of the first.

The Lions picked up another run in the top of the fourth on a leadoff homerun by Kathyrn Goins, putting the Jennies in a 2-0 hole.

They broke the game open in the top of the fifth on a bases loaded single from Alexah Replogle and an RBI single from Brooke Swadley, making it a 6-0 game.

UCM got its only run in the bottom of the sixth when Amanda Nally scored on a fielder's choice by Mabe.

Swadley's two-run homer in the top of the seventh sealed the 8-1 win for Missouri Southern.

Prater (14-11) was tagged with the game two loss. The right-hander allowed seven hits on six runs (all earned) in 4 2/3 innings.

The Jennies will close out their 2014 home schedule with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Pittsburg State. Seniors Braylyn Bivens, Alex Groeger and Brittany Knabe will be recognized in between games.
