Jennies softball falls twice in Saturday doubleheader to Central Oklahoma

WARRENSBURG, Mo. --
The Jennies softball team's four game losing streak came to an end after dropping a pair of games on Saturday afternoon to the Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 6-2 and 5-2 at the South Recreation Complex.

In game one, the Bronchos got on the board first in the top of the second on an RBI double by Emily Ditmore.

They broke the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring five times with four hits a defensive error by UCM (17-13, 5-5 MIAA). The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Devyn Frazier and a two-run homer off the bat of Brooke Zukerman.

The Jennies got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Jessica Neely and a bases-loaded passed ball that plated Lindsey Dawson from third. However, the inning ended after Kristen Heil struck out with runners on second and third, leaving the game at 6-2 in favor of Central Oklahoma.

UCM was able to put together just three hits in game one. Jakki Prater took the loss to fall to 11-6 on the season. The junior yielded seven hits on six runs (five earned) in four innings of work. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

In game two, the Jennies fell behind, 4-0 in the top of the fourth. The first run came via a dropped flyball by Alex Groeger in left. The Bronchos pushed the lead to 3-0 on a two-run bomb by Ditmore, while an RBI single by Ashleigh Tramel put UCM in a 4-0 hole. 

A run came across for the Jennies in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Jill Lucas, plating Ali Jo Rogers, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

UCO's Ally Dziadula laced a two-out triple down the right field line in the top of the seventh, plating Kaylee Brunson to give the bump the UCM deficit to four runs. 

Lucas picked up her second hit of the game with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the seventh, pulling the Jennies to within 5-2. However, UCO's starter, Nicole Brady and reliever Kaylnn Schrock combined to get the final three outs of the game.

Lucas was the only Jennie to collect two hits on the afternoon for UCM. Katie Shockley was tagged with the loss in game two, throwing 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits on four runs (one earned) and fanning five. Jessica Wilkes finished the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits on a run, walking one and recording three strikeouts.

The Jennies will wrap up their six-game homestand with a doubleheader against Northeastern State tomorrow afternoon at noon at the South Recreation Complex.
