WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Jennies softball team came out of the Arkansas-Monticello Tournament with a 3-3 record this past weekend to remain at .500 through the first two weeks of the season.
UCM (5-5) lost the tournament opener to Quincy University, 9-7 on Friday, Feb. 14. The Jennies came back to win the next three games against Henderson State, William Jewell College and Arkansas Tech, scoring a total of 34 runs.
Against Henderson State on Friday, the Jennies overcame an 8-7 deficit in the sixth, scoring four runs in the final two innings to win, 11-10.
Jakki Prater and
Kristen Heil each smacked a pair of homeruns to push UCM to victory.
Another come-from-behind victory ensued against William Jewell College in the doubleheader opener. After falling behind, 8-3 after four frames, UCM sent 10 runs across the plate in the final four innings to shock the Cardinals, 13-11. Central Missouri's 2-6 hitters went a combined 13-for-24 with a homerun, nine RBI's and seven runs.
In Saturday's game against Arkansas Tech, the Golden Suns scored twice in the top of the second, but the Jennies scored six times in the second and third innings. It was all the run support that Prater needed as the junior tossed a complete game, yielding four runs (all earned) on nine hits, while fanning nine hitters.
UCM dropped both games on Sunday to Missouri-St. Louis, 6-2 and Illinois-Springfield, 5-4. The Jennies played from behind in both games, unable to complete a comeback.
Prater finished the weekend hitting .455 (10-for-22) with a team-best six homeruns and 14 RBI's. In the circle, she made five appearances, registering a 3-1 record and a 5.68 ERA. The Nixa, Mo. native fanned 17 hitters in 19 innings.
Senior
Alex Groeger hit a team-high .619 (13-for-21) with five RBI's, six runs and two stolen bases. Heil and
Lauren Mabe each hit a pair of homeruns over the weekend as well.
The Jennies will next play from March 1-2 when they make their way to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Tournament. It will be the final road trip before the team makes their debut at home on Tuesday, March 5 against Drury University.
