WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri (19-8, 16-3 MIAA) volleyball swept Missouri Southern (6-21, 3-16 MIAA) on Friday for head coach Phillip Piontek's 100th MIAA win. The Jennies held Missouri Southern to under 20 points in the first two sets and came back to win the third set, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22.
Central Missouri took at 12-1 lead to start the match,
Annie Reilly had four aces in the streak. The Lions cut the Jennies lead in half, with six points of their own to follow. Missouri Southern held the Jennies at set point twice, before
Becca Blaise finished the set with a kill. The Jennies again took a big lead to start the second set, with nine points in a row. The Jennies held Missouri Southern to under ten points for a majority of the set. The Lions again held Central Missouri at set point twice, before
Haley Thompson had a kill to take the set. Missouri Southern took their first lead of the match in the third set, after catching the Jennies at 7-7. The Lions had a two point lead for a majority of the third, Central Missouri finally regaining the lead at 21-20. The Jennies scored three in a row to win the match.
Carly Sojka hit .312, with the most kills on the team, at 14.
Haley Thompson had the second most kills, 10, and also recorded six blocks and an ace.
Shelby Winkelmann had eight kills, and hit .500, with eight digs.
Kourtney Thompson had 36 assists, five kills, and three blocks.
Maddie Jones also had five kills. Blaise finished the match with three kills, and 17 digs.
Annie Reilly had five aces and 25 digs in the match.
Central Missouri will host Central Oklahoma tomorrow. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
