Carly Sojka's double-double with 20 kills and 26 digs as the Jennies defeated Central Oklahoma 3-2 (19-25, 25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12) to improve to 20-8 (17-3 MIAA).
The match started with neither team able to gain an early advantage. With the score tied 8-8 a UCM attack error put the Bronchos up 9-8, and they never gave the lead up. UCO extended their lead to as much as seven before taking the opening set 25-19.
The Jennies got right back in the match with a dominating performance in the second set. UCM jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, crusing to a 25-16 set win. Sojka and
Haley Thompson each knocked down six kills in the set.
The third stanza played out just like the second with the Jennies taking a big lead early. UCM went up eight, 12-4, and they were on their way to a 2-1 match lead with a 25-15 set win.
The fourth set saw seven ties and three lead changes as the Bronchos evened up the match. The Jennies broke away from a 9-all tie with a 7-2 run, for a 16-11 lead, their largest of the set. The two teams traded points and the Jennies held on to a five-point edge, 20-15 before UCO started to mount a comeback. The Bronchos closed the set scoring 10 of the final 13 points and stealing the set, 25-23.
Both squads fought for the upper hand early in the fifth and deciding set. The score was knotted at 5-apiece before the Jennies scored three straight to take an 8-5 lead. UCO closed to within two at 14-12, but H. Thompson put down a kill to clinch the set and the match for the Jennies. Sojka and
Maddie Jones each had four kills in the final set.
In addition to Sojka, four other Jens tallied double-digit kills. H. Thompson recorded 17 kills and three blocks,
Maddie Jones chipped in with 12 kills and
Kourtney Thompson recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a game-high 55 assists.
The Jennies four-game homestand continues next week as they welcome Northwest Missouri to Warrensburg Tuesday Nov. 11 and Missouri Western to close out the regular season Friday, Nov. 14.
