Warrensburg, Mo.—No. 17 Central Missouri (10-6, 7-1 MIAA) topped No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney (14-2, 7-2 MIAA) on their home court on Saturday. The Jens dropped the first set 21-25, but won the next three to follow, 30-28, 25-18, 26-24.
The first three sets of the match were close, the four set was the only set were one team had a significant lead. Nebraksa-Kearney scored three in a row in the first set, after the Jennies tied it up at 16-16, to take a 19-16 lead in the set. The Lopers allowed only two more points in their only set win of the match. The Jens took a three point lead in the second, Nebraska-Kearney finally catching them at 8-8 for the second tie score of the set. Both teams allowed only one or two points at a time for the rest of the set. An ace from
Annie Reilly and a kill from
Haley Thompson finished the set.
The score of the third set was close, the Jens were able to get a three point lead towards the end of the set.
Becca Blaise was injured late in the third, which forced Central Missouri to change up their game plan.
Katie Carlson made her collegiate debut, while
Lauren Dudgeon took over Blaise's rotation in the front row. The Jens were able to hold the Lopers at 17 for five points, bringing them to set point. Nebraska-Kearney had one more kill in the set, before
Kourtney Thompson earned set point with a kill. Central Missouri had the largest lead of the match in the fourth set. There were only four tie scores and one early lead change in the set. The Lopers had a late rally, but fell short when H. Thompson earned match point with a kill.
Carly Sojka was the Jennies leading scorer, with 21 kill and three blocks. She also had 13 digs for her fifth double-double this season. K. Thompson also had a double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs, her sixth of the season. K. Thompson also had five kills and three blocks. H. Thompson matched a career-high seven blocks in the match. She also had 16 kills and hit .350, with one ace.
Maddie Jones had four blocks and eight kills, while Blaise had six kills and two blocks in three sets played. Reilly had three aces and 23 digs in the match.
The Jens will Missouri Southern and Central Oklahoma on the road next weekend.
