Devin Claypool earned his 6th career win in the high jump, earning a provisional qualifying mark at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic. Senior
Zak Thompson also picked up a provisional mark for the Mules, placing fifth in the discus throw, while sophomore
Joseph Holland improved upon his provisional time from a week ago in the 110 meter hurdles, winning the event for the first time in his career.
Claypool beat out a field of 14 athletes to take first place in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6' 9" (2.06m). The junior now ranks fourth in the MIAA this season, and 13th in NCAA Division II.
On his sixth and final attempt in the discus, Thompson recorded a throw of 170' 7" (52.00m), good for fifth place out of 35 competitors. The Walnut Grove native moves into sixth on the MIAA's performance list, but ranks 11th nationally.
After recording his first career provisional in the 110 meter hurdles a week ago at Emporia State, Holland earned his first career victory in the race this week. The sophomore posted a time of 14.49 seconds, just over his personal record of 14.44, posted last week. Holland currently ranks 18th in the nation, and sits 6th in the MIAA.
For the Jennies, freshman
Brittany Kallenberger earned a provisional mark in the pole vault with her second place finish. Kallenberger cleared the bar at 11' 8" (3.56m), to move into fourth place in the MIAA this season. Nationally, the freshman ranks 26th, and fourth among freshmen this season.
The Mules and Jennies return to Warrensburg next week, for their lone home meet of the outdoor season. UCM hosts the Mule Relays on Friday, April 19, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
