For the Jennies, junior Zoe Sharplin is within a hundred points after day one of the heptathlon, currently sitting in fourth place with 3,221 points through four events. Freshman Victoria Jackson, in her first NCAA Championships appearances, is in 15th place, with 2,782 points.

Sharplin earned a third-place result in the opening event, posting a time of 14.05 in the 100 meter hurdles. The Wurtulla, Australia native then placed ninth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5' 3" (1.60m). She then regained some ground on the field by winning the third event of the day, throwing 41' 3.25" (12.58m) in the shot put, then finished seventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.81. Sharplin will enter the second day of competition tomorrow just 71 points behind the leader with three events remaining.

Freshman Meelis Siimson competed in the men's long jump finals as well on Thursday, as the indoor All-American long jumper placed just outside of scoring position, in ninth place. Siimson finished with a jump of 24' 3.75" (7.41m) to finish just shy of All-American status.

The Mules and Jennies will see the conclusion of the multi-events, and look for their first points in the team's overall standings Friday, when the second day of competition at the NCAA Championships kick off. The day begins at 11 a.m. with the decathlon and heptathlon, followed by Devin Claypool in the high jump finals, Brooke Swearingin in the discus finals, and Kellin Loch and the Mules' 4x400m relay team in preliminary heats throughout the day.
