(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Jennies softball (16-23, 1-9 MIAA) had plenty of chances to score against Southwest Baptist (11-19, 3-7 MIAA) in an MIAA doubleheader Saturday afternoon, but just couldn't get the magic hit, falling in the first game 1-0, then dropping the nightcap, 3-1.
The first game was an offensive struggle for both teams, with neither team able to score a run until the top of the fifth inning when Southwest Baptist was able to cross the plate on a balk by the Jennies and take the 1-0 lead.
Southwest Baptist was aided in the game one win by the Jennies missed offensive chances. The Jennies outhit the Bearcats 8-3 but left nine runners on-base during the contest.
The second game of the series was almost an identical story to the first, with the Jennies outhitting the Bearcats 10-9, but once again missing critical scoring chances by leaving seven runners on-base, leading to the 3-1 win for the Bearcats.
The Jennies lone run of the day came in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two on a double to left field by Ashlea Bengtson (Wichita, Kan.) and then a ground out RBI by Karissa Williams (Wichita, Kan.), which scored Bengtson.
With the losses, Central Missouri falls to 16-23 overall and 1-9 in the MIAA while Southwest Baptist improves to 11-19 and 3-7 in league action.
