(DENTON, Texas) – University of Central Missouri Jennies' softball (7-3) struggled on the final day of the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling in Denton, Texas, suffering an 18-2 loss to eighth-ranked Angelo State Sunday morning.
The 18-runs allowed by the Jennies are the most since March 19, 1977 when the Jennies also gave-up 18 runs to the University of Missouri.
The Jennies only scoring inning came in the bottom of the first when
Jordan Marble (Jefferson City, Mo.) reached base on an error, driving in
Nicole Norberg (St. Louis, Mo.) and getting the Jennies on the board, trailing the Rambelles 3-1. Central Missouri made it 3-2 when
Ashlea Bengtson (Wichita, Kan.) reached base on an error by the Angelo State pitcher which allowed
Brittany Martin (Warrensburg, Mo.) to score.
The rest of the day belonged to the Belles as they scored two runs in the second, four in the third and an impressive nine runs in the fifth inning, allowing them to roll to the 18-2 victory.
The Jennies will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they open play in the 2012 Mathis-Zenner Memorial Softball Tournament hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri. Central Missouri will battle future MIAA foe Northeastern State at 2 p.m. Saturday then face St. Mary's (Texas) University in a 6 p.m. contest, also on Saturday.
