Jennies’ softball drops two on first day of Best Western Premier Spring Fling

(DENTON, Texas) – University of Central Missouri Jennies' softball (5-2) dropped two games on the first day of the 2012 Best Western Premier Spring Fling tournament hosted by Texas Woman's University Friday afternoon in Denton, Texas.
Game 1: Abilene Christian 8, Central Missouri 0
            The Jennies (5-1) saw their five game win streak come to an end in the first game of the day against Abilene Christian, falling 8-0.
            Central Missouri could only muster two hits the entire game and allowed the Wildcats to score runs in three innings, including a four run first inning to put Abilene Christian up 4-0. The Wildcats got two more in the third and two more in the fifth innings, sealing the 8-0 win.
            The Jennies also committed four errors in the contest.
 
Game 2: Texas A&M-Kingsville 3, Central Missouri 2
            In the second game of the day, the Jennies lost a hard fought contest to Texas A&M-Kingsville, falling 3-2.
            The Jennies got on the board in the bottom of the first when Katie Groves (Bluffdale, Utah) placed a perfect bunt into the infield, allowing Medora West (St. Louis, Mo.) to score and put Central Missouri up, 1-0.
            Texas A&M-Kingsville scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead, going up 2-1.
            Central Missouri responded in the bottom of the sixth though, when Jakki Prater (Nixa, Mo.) belted a double to centerfield, allowing Groves to score and knot the game up at 2-2 heading into the seventh inning.
            The Javelinas scored the go-ahead run when Amber Cherry hit a fielder's choice, allowing Kaycee Bryan to score. Texas A&M-Kingsville then used stifling defense in the bottom of the seventh to pull of the 3-2 victory over the Jennies.
            The Jennies will look to bounce back in day two of the Best Western Premier Spring Fling Saturday afternoon, facing Midwestern State at 11:30 a.m. then Tarleton State at 4:30 p.m. in Denton, Texas.
