LYNCHBURG, Va. - Senior multi-event athlete
Carl McCargo placed third in the men's heptathlon at the Division I Libery Kickoff. In the first action of the 2012-13 track & field season, McCargo posted a score of 4,033 points.
Competing against seven Division I athletes on day one of the heptathlon, McCargo started the event with a fifth-place finish in the 60m Dash, posting a time of 7.55. After sixth place finish in the Long Jump (19' 4"), McCargo earned his best result of the day in the Shot Put, coming in third with a throw of 40' 3/4".
On day two, McCargo won two events, taking the 60m Hurdles (8.63) and 1,000m Run (2:50.04). The Murrieta, Calif. native took a big hit in the standings however, by failing to post a mark in the pole vault, missing on his first three attempts.
The rest of the Mules and Jennies multi-event athletes open the indoor track season next weekend, at the Doane College Multi Events, beginning December 7. The full slate of track and field events will get underway on January 18, with the UCM Invitational.
