(Overland Park, Kan.) – The Central Missouri Jennies softball team ended its season with a pair of losses to ranked opponents in the MIAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex. The Jennies fell 3-0 to No. 21 Nebraska Omaha and 1-0 to No. 15 Emporia State.
The six seeded Jennies (29-25) were outhit 11-3 in the games as freshman
Braylyn Bivens tallied two. Junior
Jaydee Young added the other. Young also had the lone stolen base for UCM.
Game 1: Jennies 0, Nebraska Omaha 3
Central Missouri held the Mavericks off the board until the third frame when they sent one across and then two more in the fourth. UNO also outhit the Jennies 6-1 in the game.
Bivens singled to lead off the fourth inning and advanced to third on a pair of groundouts but was stranded there. She was the only runner to get past first base for the Jennies.
The Mavericks scored in the third on a single down the right field line with a runner on second. Then in the fourth, Amber Lutmer hit a two-run homer.
Sophomore
Sarah Espy suffered the loss, going 3.1 innings. She gave up all three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one. Junior
Lacey Dixon came on in relief, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up two hits.
Game 2: Jennies 0, Emporia State 1
The Jennies gave up the lone run in the fifth inning on a single up the middle with two outs and a runner on second. Emporia State tallied five hits in the game to UCM's two.
Bivens led off the game with a single but was stranded on second. Young was the only other Jenny to get on base, singling in the sixth inning. She was also left on second base in the frame.
Dixon pitched the whole game, giving up the one run on five hits, striking out five batters.
