(Pittsburg, Kan.) – Backed by 25 hits, six of which were extra base hits, the Central Missouri Jennies softball team swept Pittsburg State, 2-0 and 13-1, on Saturday at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas only tallied seven hits in the two games.
Juniors
Katie Groves and
Nicole Norberg and sophomore
Ashlea Bengtson led the team with four hits each in the contests. Groves had a triple and home run, two RBI, four runs scored, and a stolen base while Norberg recorded a double and four RBI. Bengtson had a double and homer, one RBI and one run scored. Senior
Kelli Kurka added a double and freshman
Brittany Rozier hit her first triple of the season in the contests as well.
The Jennies will return to action on Tuesday when they host Washburn for one game. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. from Jennies Field.
Game 1: Jennies 2, Pittsburg State 0
Central Missouri tallied six hits, giving up two to the Gorillas. UCM left four runners on base to Pittsburg State's eight.
The Jennies scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Norberg that proved to be the game winner. Later in the sixth, UCM tacked on a security run by a Norberg single after Groves tripled down the right field line.
The Gorillas left one runner on third base, the only one to get past second base.
Groves had two hits in the game, scoring once. Norberg collected both RBI, garnering one hit. Bengtson, sophomore

Braylyn Bivens also had one hit each.
Sophomore
Sarah Espy picked up the win, throwing the whole game. She scattered the two hits over seven innings, walking five batters and striking out five.
Game 2: Jennies 13, Pittsburg State 1
The Jennies had 19 hits, three shy of tying a program record set in the 2007 season, to Pittsburg State's five. Central Missouri left five runners on base to the Gorillas seven.
Central Missouri got the scoring started in the third inning by sending three across the plate. PSU put one up in the bottom half but UCM added a pair in the fifth and eight in the sixth to end the game.
In the third frame UCM had five hits, scoring three times, led off with a triple by Rozier. In the bottom half PSU tallied its one run on a fielder's choice.
In the fifth inning with a runner on second and one out, Groves hit her fifth homer of the season.
The Jennies sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth frame, collecting nine hits. Bivens and Kurka both recorded two RBI, with Norberg Bengtson and senior
Kasey Martin picking up one each. UCM started the inning with five consecutive hits before getting an out.
Every Jenny in the lineup tallied at least one hit with Norberg and Bengtson both collecting three. Norberg had a double and two RBI while Bengtson had a double, RBI and a run scored.
Senior
Jamin Landreth recorded her seventh win of the season, throwing six innings. She gave up one run on five hits, walking two and striking out four.
