Bengtson, Dixon Help Jennies Salvage Split

(St. Joseph, Mo.) – Junior Lacey Dixon threw her first no-hitter and sophomore Ashlea Bengtson hit a solo home run to help the Central Missouri Jennies split with Missouri Western on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Jennies fell 2-0 in the first game and came back for the 1-0 victory in the second.
      Dixon's no-hitter is her first as a Jenny and second of her collegiate career. She is the first Central Missouri pitcher to throw a seven inning no-hitter since Megan Leonard in the 2009 season.
      Central Missouri outhit the Griffons 7-5 on the day as Bengtson led the Jenny offense with three. She recorded a game-winning homer, a stolen base, RBI and a run scored. Juniors Jaydee Young and Katie Groves, and freshmen Brittany Rozier and Braylyn Bivens all had one hit apiece.
      The Jennies will return to action this weekend when they host Fort Hays State on Friday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from Jennies Field.
 
Game 1: Jennies 0, Missouri Western 2
      Neither team recorded a hit until the fourth inning when Missouri Western singled but stranded her on base. Central Missouri got its first hit in the sixth, back-to-back singles, and also left them both on base.
      The Griffons scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth off a double by Blair Stalder. She came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs and connected for the two-RBI hit to right field for the lone scores of the game.
      Central Missouri put together back-to-back singles again in the seventh, but could not get anyone across the plate.
      Missouri Western outhit the Jennies 5-4 and also committed one error in the game. Bivens, Rozier, Bengtson, and Young all had singles in the game.
      Senior Jamin Landreth suffered the loss, going the whole game in the circle. She gave up both runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two.
 
Game 2: Jennies 1, Missouri Western 0
      Central Missouri recorded three hits in the game and left four runners on base. The Griffons had three base runners, stranding one on base. They both committed an error.
      With the score still tied at zero, Bengtson stepped in the box with one out in the top of the seventh and drove the second pitch she saw over the fence to put the Jennies on the board. It is her third homer of the season.
      Bengtson singled in the fifth inning as well but was stranded at second after stealing the bag. Groves recorded the other Jenny hit in the game, a single in the fourth.
      Dixon faced 22 batters in the contest, striking out one and walking another. She did not allow any runner to get past first base, throwing one out trying to steal.
