Jennies Sweep Hawks, Win 11th in a Row

(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Central Missouri Jennies softball team continued its win streak, bringing it to 11 in a row with a pair of victories at Rockhurst on Wednesday evening. The Jennies won the first game 4-3 in the eighth inning, and the second 12-8.
      The Jennies out hit Rockhurst 26-19 in the two games. The Hawks also had five errors in the two contests to UCM's zero.
      Freshman Brittany Rozier led the Jennies with five hits, two doubles, two RBI and a run scored. Three of those hits where in the second game, including both doubles. Sophomore Ashlea Bengtson tallied four hits in the contests, two doubles, two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.
      The Jennies (11-7) will be back in action on Friday-Sunday when they participate in the MIAA Crossover in Springfield, Mo. Central Missouri opens the tournament against No. 23 Nebraska-Omaha on Friday at 2 p.m. and then face Washburn at 4 p.m.
 
Game 1: Jennies 4, Rockhurst 3 (8 innings)
      Central Missouri got on the board in the second inning only to allow the Hawks to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame. UCM added one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings but Rockhurst rallied back with two in the bottom of the seventh to force extras.
      In the eighth inning, UCM had a runner on third base and one out when junior Brittany Martin singled to center field to score the go ahead run. The Jennies sat Rockhurst down in order in the bottom half of the frame for the win.
      Martin and Rozier both had two hits in the game. Senior Kelli Kurka scored twice, collecting one single.
      Sophomore Megan Schallom started the game, going six innings. She gave up one run, scattering six hits, giving up three walks and striking out a personal game-high six batters. Junior Lacey Dixon recorded her third win, pitching the final two innings. She allowed three hits, giving up two runs, walking one and striking out two batters.
 
Game 2: Jennies 12, Rockhurst 8
      The second game saw a total of 12 runs scored in the first inning between the two teams. Central Missouri was able to settle down in the circle and only allow one run after that. The Jennies took the lead in the third frame with three runs and add two each in the fifth and sixth innings for the win.
      The top of the first inning saw all nine Jennies come to the plate, scoring five times. They put together two singles, two doubles, a triple and a walk to score the five runs.
      In the third inning, junior Nicole Norberg hit her third home run of the season to start a three-run rally. The next two batters singled followed by a Rozier double that brought both runners in a put UCM ahead.
      Rozier started the fifth frame with her second double of the game and of the season. She later scored on a throwing error by the Hawks. Central Missouri added one more in the inning on a single by Kurka.
      Central Missouri broke the game open in the sixth inning by scoring a pair of runs. Rozier's third hit of the game started the mini rally when she singled with two outs. Junior Katie Groves came up two batters later and doubled to score the runners.
      Junior Jamin Landreth threw seven innings and collected her third win of the season. She scattered seven hits, giving up three runs, walking only one runner and striking out five batters. Dixon started the game, but could not record an out. She gave up five runs on three hits and walked two batters.
