(Joplin, Mo.) – The Central Missouri Jennies softball team split on the first day of the Border Battle in Joplin, Mo. UCM fell in its first game 2-0 to Southwest Oklahoma in eight innings, and defeated Truman State 3-2.

Jaydee Young, and
Brittany Martin, sophomore
Brandi Campbell, and freshman
Braylyn Bivens all collecting two on the day. Campbell also scored twice and Martin added one.
Central Missouri will be back in action on Sunday, tomorrow, when the Jennies continue in the Border Battle. They are scheduled to face Rockhurst at 10 a.m. and Quincy at 2 p.m. in Joplin, Mo.
Game 1: Southwest Oklahoma 2, UCM 0
Central Missouri held the Bulldogs scoreless through seven innings and forced extras for the first time this season. Southwest Oklahoma recorded both its runs in the top of the eighth to get the victory.
The Jennies had runners to third base in both the seventh and eighth inning, but could never get that hit to push them in. Central Missouri outhit the Bulldogs 7-5 in the game and Southwest Oklahoma committed two errors to the Jennies one.
Norberg went 2-of-3 in the game, getting a double and a single. Bivens, Martin, seniors
Kasey Martin and
Kelli Kurka, and sophomore
Ashlea Bengtson all had one hit.
Junior
Lacey Dixon pitched in her first game of the season, getting the loss in the circle. She went the whole eight innings, giving up five hits and four walks, striking out six.
Game 2: Truman State 2, UCM 3
Central Missouri got on the board early, scoring in the second and third. UCM gave up a pair in the top of the fourth before going ahead in the bottom of the fifth to record the victory. The Jennies out the Bulldogs 7-3 as well.
The Jennies scored in the second inning after
Brittany Martin singled up the middle and Young followed with a double. Then in the third, Campbell led off with a single, stole second and came home on a single by junior
Katie Groves.
Truman State recorded its two runs in the fourth on a double by Kelsey Bollman with the bases loaded. UCM came back in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles by Campbell and Bivens that put the Jennies up for good.
Young and Campbell both had two hits in the game and Bivens, Groves, and
Brittany Martin all had one.
Senior
Jamin Landreth threw 3.1 innings in the circle, giving up two hits, two walks and striking out two. Sophomore
Sarah Espy recorded her first win, throwing 3.2 innings and striking out six batters.
