Box Score (WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – After a sluggish first half, the Central Missouri Jennies took a 16-for-27 shooting performance en route to a 66-50 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions. Senior
Nicole Caddell led the Jens with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Jens opened the game ahead 4-2 before Missouri Southern went on an 11-2 run to lead 13-6.
Taylor Hanson hit a three-pointer to close the gap, but the Lions immediately answered with a trey of their own from
Jessica Bell. The Lions went on to maintain a single-digit lead throughout the first half, taking advantage of the Jennies poor shooting (23.5%, 8-for-34 from the field).
Central Missouri came out of the intermission with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three-point play from Caddell that tied the game at the 18:16 mark. After MSSU's
Erin Rice hit one of two free throws to make it 30-29, the Jens again scored seven straight to go up 37-29.
The Lions closed to within five with a pair of layups with 8:44 to play, but that would be as close as they would come. The Jennies built on their lead, outscoring the Lions over the final five minutes, 17-9.
Seventeen of Caddell's 24 points came in the second half, as the senior from Tuscaloosa, Ala. shot 5-of-6 from the field.
Junior
Shaquanda Wiggins scored 15 points, reaching double-figures for the fourth time this season. Wiggins also pulled down nine rebounds, just missing out on what would have been her third double-double of the year.
Alyssa Rhodes finished with nine points and six assists, while Hanson finished with eight points, shooting 2-for-6 from beyond the arc.
The Jennies improve to 7-0 overall, and start the MIAA season at 2-0. The win streak is the longest to start a season since 1997-98. The Jens are back in action next Saturday, December 10, when they travel to Emporia State, scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
