Box Score (JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – The Central Missouri Mules rolled over the Lincoln Blue Tigers 49-6 on Saturday afternoon at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. UCM out-gained the Blue Tigers 549-276 on the day en route to their sixth win of the season.
The Blue Tigers (1-8, 0-8 MIAA) struck first taking the opening kickoff from their own 25 down to the UCM six yard line before a false start penalty pushed them back and the drive stalled. James Earlywine kicked a 29-yard field goal to give Lincoln the early 3-0 lead.
The Mules (6-3, 5-3 MIAA) responded on their first possession.
Ralph Watson returned the kickoff to the Lincoln 41 to set UCM up in good field position. Four plays later
Tommy Corwin hit
David Cannon for a 20-yard scoring strike and the Mules led 7-3.
UCM forced a three and out on the next possession and
Marlon Douglas again gave the Mules great field position with a 34-yard punt return to the LU 24. Four plays later Corwin hit
Jamar Howard with a seven-yard scoring strike and the Mules led 14-3.
The Blue Tigers added a 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter to pull within 14-6. The field goal by Earlywine capped a nine-play, 47-yard drive.
UCM extended the lead to 21-6 with a 4-yard
LaVance Taylor touchdown run with just over five minutes left in the half. The Mules took over at the Lincoln 30-yard line after the Blue Tigers failed to convert on a fourth down fake punt attempt.
The Mules made it 28-6 right before the half when Corwin hit
Anthony Kirkwood with a 49-yard score.
Central Missouri started the second half with great field position thanks to
Alexis Reedus' kickoff return to the UCM 47. Six plays later, Corwin hit Taylor in the flat and thanks to a big block from Cannon he coasted into the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown reception to put the Mules up 35-6.
Central Missouri tacked on another touchdown late in the third quarter to go up 42-6. UCM took over on downs at their own 24. A 49-yard run by Taylor on the first play of the drive gave the Mules a first down at the Lincoln 27. Four plays later Corwin hit Howard in the corner of the end zone for a leaping touchdown.
The Mules tacked on a late touchdown on a 19-yard run by
Corey Washington that capped a 13-play, 75-yard drive and gave UCM the 49-6 win.
Corwin finished the day 13-of-21 for 191 yards and five touchdowns. Taylor had a career-high 119 yards rushing with a touchdown rushing and receiving on 10 carries.
Camren Torneden added a career-high 93 yards on 11 carries. Cannon led the Mules with four catches for 61 yards and a score, while Howard added two touchdown receptions on three grabs.
Defensively, the Mules held the Blue Tigers to six first downs and 246 yards of total offense.
Devin King led the way with 11 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Patrick Lewis had seven stops and
Marlon Douglas had six.
The Mules are back in action next weekend at Lindenwood for a 1:30 kickoff.
