RV Jennies Volleyball Sweeps Newman Saturday Afternoon in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – The receiving votes Central Missouri Jennies (11-6, 3-1 MIAA) swept the Newman Jets (5-12, 1-3 MIAA) by final scores of 25-20, 33-31, 25-20 on Saturday, Sept. 26, inside Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
 
After opening the match on a 7-3 run, highlighted by a pair of kills from senior Maya Fergerson (team-best 10 kills on 20 swings, for a .300 hitting percentage, adding four digs overall), the Jens took the lead with a five-point victory.
 
The Jets held a 30-29 advantage in the second, but Central Missouri responded with a 4-1 run, capped off by a kill from outside hitter Shaye Koski (seven kills overall), doubling its lead.
 
The Jens improved to 6-2 in three-set matches on the year, thanks to a 25-20 win in the third, highlighted by a hitting margin of .265 to .111 in the final frame as middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald finished the match with nine kills, five digs, and three total blocks.
 
On the afternoon, Central Missouri outhit the Jets by a margin of .273 to .158 as juniors Grace Wagers (three digs and two blocks overall) and Ashlynn Jaccard had eight kills each, while Overland Park, Kan. native Bria Dawson contributed seven kills on 13 swings (.462 hitting percentage) and three blocks.
 
Libero Ragin Corwin was the lone Jen to reach double-figure digs with a match-high 15, plus senior Kirsten Harper collected five digs, and Aurora, Colo. native Brenna Kelly had four digs in the winning effort.
 
Sophomore Bella Holcomb paced Central Missouri with a match-high 22 assists, while Omaha, Neb. native Chloe Rauner ended play with 19 assists and four digs on the afternoon as the Jens converted 64 percent of their sideout opportunities for good measure.
 
The Jens continue MIAA play on Tuesday, Sept. 29, as they host the Northwest Missouri Bearcats (5-8, 2-1 MIAA), during Get the Red Out, with first serve beginning at 6:00 p.m., inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
