WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (33-15, 14-8 MIAA) swept a doubleheader against the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (14-37, 3-19 MIAA), winning by final scores of 6-1 and 2-0 on Saturday, April 25, during Senior Day, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jennies honored their nine seniors during a ceremony after game two concluded for their contributions to the program, including
Aly Hageman,
Bailey Ast,
Jadyn Sheffield,
Lexi Blackmon,
Taylor Kvale,
Bailey Brumley,
Andi Siebeneck, graduate assistant coach
Taryan Barrick-Wessels, and student manager Addie Lange.
The Jens conclude the MIAA regular season on Tuesday, April 28, as they host the Emporia State Hornets (26-15, 12-8 MIAA) for a doubleheader, with first pitch of game one slated for 1:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 6, Nebraska-Kearney 1
After an RBI single from Hageman in the bottom of the first, the Jens took an early 1-0 lead. Central Missouri added a pair of runs in the third, beginning with a Blackmon RBI bunt single that scored
Malia Bucksath, followed by a
Cydney Fullerton RBI single to left field.
With two on and one out in the home half of the fourth,
Marisa Johnson extended the Jennies lead with an RBI single through the left side of the infield, plating
Kyrsten Moran, making it a 4-0 advantage.
The lone run for the Lopers came in the top of the sixth, but an RBI double off the wall in center field from
Taylor Thompson made it a four-run ballgame, before Hageman drove in her second RBI of the game with a single, en route to victory by a final score of 6-1.
Brumley improved to 11-4 on the year in the circle, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out a career-high eight batters on 103 pitches. Six Jens recorded multi-hit performances, including Thompson, who went 3-4 in the winning effort.
Game 2: Central Missouri 2, Nebraska-Kearney 0
The Jens opened the scoring in the doubleheader finale thanks to an RBI double down the left field line from Johonson in the bottom of the first, giving UCM a 1-0 lead.
Central Missouri added their lone insurance run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brumley in the third, as Siebeneck (13-4) picked up the victory in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out a career-best seven Loper batters for good measure.
