WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Sawyer Allen struck out eight batters and threw six innings, leading the No. 8-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball team to a 3-2 victory over the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions in the second game of a three-game MIAA series on Saturday, March 21, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (22-5, 13-3 MIAA) and Lions (4-20, 3-12 MIAA) are slated to wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, March 22, in Warrensburg.
Central Missouri scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the second inning when
Cole Kreisel drove in
Drew Veatch and
Collin Dobson with a two-run single to right field, and
Chase Wilcox plated
Michael Smosna on an RBI fielder's choice.
Kreisel, Wilcox,
Ryker Edwards, and
Cole Young each had a hit to lead UCM offensively in the game.
Allen earned the win on the mound to improve to 3-0 on the season after giving up one unearned run on just four hits with eight strikeouts and zero walks in six innings and 83 pitches.
Sam Wyrick secured his team-best third save of 2026 after tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
JJ Young had two hits, including a triple, and CJ Snowden and Caleb Eisenhower each had doubles, pacing UAFS in the contest.
