WICHITA, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (17-7, 3-1 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Newman Jets (4-18, 0-2 MIAA), by final scores of 9-0 (5 inn.) and 8-5, on Friday, March 20, from Newman Softball Field in Wichita, Kan.
The Jens continue MIAA play on Saturday, March 21, as they take on No. 17 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (24-5, 2-0 MIAA) for a pair of games, with the first pitch of game one slated for noon from Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla.
Game 1: Central Missouri 9, Newman 0 (5 inn.)
The Jens opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from
Aly Hageman that drove in
Bailey Brumley and
Cydney Fullerton.
Central Missouri added a pair of runs in the fourth, thanks to an RBI single into center field from Brumley.
Beginning with an RBI single from
Jadyn Sheffield in the fifth, the Jens added three runs in the frame before
Andi Siebeneck (7-2) picked up her team-leading seventh victory of the season in the circle.
The senior allowed just two hits in the ballgame on 68 pitches, while Hageman and Sheffield paced UCM offensively with multi-hit performances for good measure.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Newman 5
In the doubleheader finale, Brumley's fifth dinger of the season gave UCM an early 1-0 lead after half an inning of play.
The Jets answered with a run in the bottom of the second, before taking a 2-1 lead in the third. Central Missouri responded in the next half inning with five runs, beginning with a three-run shot off the bat of
Taylor Kvale that scored
Lexi Blackmon and Hageman.
Fullerton increased the lead with an RBI double that plated
Kyrsten Moran, before Fullerton scored on a wild pitch, making it 6-2 UCM.
Newman cut the lead to three with a single run in the bottom of the third, but a two-RBI double from
Taylor Thompson was too much for the Jets to overcome in the ballgame.
Freshman
Madelyn Ducheneaux (2-0) improved to 2-0 on the year, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief, while five Jens recorded multi-hit ballgames in the winning effort.
