PITTSBURG, Kan. – No. 6-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball fell to the No. 4-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas, 13-4, in the opening game of a three-game MIAA series on Friday afternoon, March 13, at Al Ortolani Field.
The Mules (18-4, 9-2 MIAA) and Gorillas (21-1, 11-1 MIAA) are scheduled to conclude the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 14, in Pittsburg.
Chase Wilcox went 3-for-4 with a double,
Cole Kreisel doubled and drove in two runs, and
Grant Hollister and
Cole Young each had doubles, leading UCM offensively in the game.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Greyson Chappel (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing six runs – five earned – on two hits with one strikeout and two walks in an inning.
Eric Bacon went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles, leading Pittsburg State at the plate.
Pitt State reliever Bradley Neill (1-0) earned the victory on the rubber, surrendering no earned runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work, while Bradyn McClure secured his third save of the season after tossing four innings and giving up no earned runs on zero hits with one strikeout.
