TOPEKA, Kan. – No. 6-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball posted a 7-6 victory over the Washburn Ichabods on Tuesday afternoon, March 10, in a MIAA game played on Falley Field at Steve Anson Stadium.
The Mules (18-3, 9-1 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to Pittsburg, Kan., for a key three-game MIAA series at No. 4 Pittsburg State (19-1, 9-1 MIAA) March 13-15.
Central Missouri built a 7-3 lead after scoring a combined three runs in the third and fourth innings, and two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings, before Washburn pulled within 7-6 with a trio of runs in the bottom of the seventh. That was as close as the Ichabods got, though, as the Mules kept Washburn off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth innings, sealing the win.
Kaiden Ashton went 3-for-3 with a double, run, and RBI.
Ryker Edwards was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI.
Cole Funkhouser was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double.
Michael Smosna hit a triple, and
Cole Kreisel doubled, leading UCM at the plate in the victory.
Central Missouri reliever
Landon Krohn (1-0) earned the victory on the mound after giving up no earned runs on no hits with two strikeouts and one walk in an inning, while
Sam Wyrick secured his first save of the season after throwing 1 1/3 innings and surrendering no earned runs on just one hit.
For the game, the Mules outhit the Ichabods (8-12, 5-3 MIAA), 11-7.
