SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Central Missouri Jennies (2-1, 0-0 MIAA) fell to the (RV) Quincy Hawks (3-0, 0-0 GLVC) by a final score of 3-1 (11-25, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25) Saturday, Sept. 6, in the final day of the UIS Volleyball Tournament inside The Recreation and Athletic Center in Springfield.
After dropping the opening set of the match, Central Missouri responded with a win in the second, highlighted by a 6-2 run with two kills from senior
Rachel Ziesman (nine kills and two blocks overall).
Quincy responded with victories in the third and fourth sets, claiming their third win of the season as Janelle Pye-Blacknard, Elena Kasavica, and Susanna Beretti recorded double-double performances.
The Jens had four players finish the match with nine kills, including Ziesman, outside hitter/opposite
Emma Siron (eight digs), Parkville, Mo. native
Shaye Koski (career-best three solo blocks and four blocks overall), and junior
Maya Fergerson (career-high two solo blocks and three blocks overall).
Defensively, Central Missouri was paced by libero
Grace Winkelmann's match-high 17 digs, while Aurora, Colo. native
Brenna Kelly collected 11 digs for good measure. Setter
Kayla Baer ended the contest with 39 assists, eight digs, four kills, and two blocks, while sophomore
Grace Wagers added seven kills on 14 swings (.400 hitting percentage) and three blocks.
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Sept. 12, for a pair of matches against No. 14 Grand Valley State (noon) and Hillsdale (3:00 p.m.), in the opening day of the Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic from the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.
