Jennies Volleyball Wins Opening Matches of Hampton Inn & Suites Classic

ALENDALE, Mich. – The Central Missouri Jennies (4-1, 0-0 MIAA) won a pair of matches against No. 13 Grand Valley State Lakers (3-2, 0-0 GLIAC) and the Hillsdale Chargers (2-3, 0-0 G-MAC) on Friday, Sept. 12, in the opening day of the Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic inside tHE GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.    
 
Central Missouri concludes the 2025 Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic Saturday, Sept. 13, as they take on the Findlay Oilers (3-1, 0-0 G-MAC) at 10:00 a.m. (CST) from the Davenport Student Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
 
Match 1: Central Missouri 3, No. 13 Grand Valley State 0 (25-15, 25-20, 26-24)
Highlighted by a 6-2 run at the beginning of the first set, Central Missouri took a 1-0 lead in the match thanks to outhitting the Lakers .342 to .182. The Jens doubled their advantage with a 25-20 victory in the second, before sweeping the Lakers with a 26-24 win in the third.
 
Central Missouri was paced offensively by Parkville, Mo., native Shay Koski (three digs) and middle blocker Rachel Ziesman (one block), who both finished the match with 10 kills each. Redshirt sophomore Emma Siron had a career-high 15 digs and seven kills, while middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald (team-high two blocks) and junior Maya Fergerson (two digs and one block) had six kills each.
 
The Jens outhit Grand Valley State by a margin of .241 to .195 on the afternoon as libero Grace Winkelmann collected a match-high 15 digs, plus Wesley Chapel, Fla. native Kayla Baer contributed a match-best 37 assists, seven digs, and three kills on eight swings.
 
Match 2: Central Missouri 3, Hillsdale 1 (14-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22)
After dropping the opening set, Central Missouri evened the match with a 25-19 victory in the second, thanks to a Shaye Koski (match-high 20 kills on 49 swings, adding six digs and four blocks overall) kill that capped off an 11-3 run.
 
The Chargers responded with a victory in the second set, but Central Missouri answered right back, regaining their lead with a 25-21 win in the third as the Jens held Hillsdale to a .106 hitting percentage.
 
With the score tied at 20 in the fourth, UCM went on a 5-2 run, beginning with a kill from Rachel Ziesman (12 kills and two blocks overall) followed by an ace from Emma Siron (14 digs and seven kills), and a pair of Koski kills sealed their fourth win of the season.
 
Setter Kayla Baer recorded her first double-double performance of the season with 51 assists and 12 digs, while Lee's Summit, Mo., native Kaelyn McDonald had nine kills and a team-best five blocks, and sophomore Grace Wagers added six kills and two blocks for good measure.
 
In total, three Jens collected double-digit digs in the winning effort, led by redshirt senior Grace Winkelmann's team-high 21 digs, while sophomore Brenna Kelly had eight digs, and Owasso, Okla. native Kirsten Harper added seven digs.
