Jennies Volleyball Falls at No. 4 Nebraska Kearney Friday

KEARNEY, Neb. – The (Receiving Votes) Central Missouri Jennies (7-3, 0-1 MIAA) fell to No. 4 Nebraska Kearney Lopers (14-0, 1-0 MIAA) by a final score of 3-1 (18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25) Friday, Sept. 26, inside the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Neb.    
 
The Jens jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the opening set, capped off by a Grace Wagers (six kills, four blocks, and three digs overall) kill from Maddie Wojdyla (eight assists and four digs overall) before UNK went on a 9-3 run of their own, taking the opening set 25-18.
 
With the score tied at 15 in the second, UNK went on a 6-0 run to win 25-19, doubling its advantage in the match.
 
The Jens responded with a 6-2 run in the opening points of the third, before leading by as many as five in the later stages. Sedalia, Mo. native Emma Siron's 13th kill of the night gave UCM a 25-21 victory, making it a 2-1 Loper lead.  Siron ended the night with a match-high 17 kills, adding 14 digs and two blocks for good measure.
 
With the score tied at 20 in the fourth, Nebraska Kearney earned their 14th victory of the season, ending the match on a 5-0 run.
 
Two Jens ended the match with double-figure kills, including Parkville, Mo. native Shaye Koski, who had 10 kills, adding five digs, while middle blocker Rachel Ziesman had eight kills and six blocks on the night.
 
Defensively, Central Missouri was paced in the back row by libero Grace Winkelmann's match-high 21 digs. The Rhineland, Mo. native moved into 10th place all-time in career digs with 1,563, passing Jacque Barr's mark of 1,550.
 
Kaelyn McDonald had a match-high seven blocks overall, including two solo blocks, and added four kills on the night. Setter Kayla Baer contributed a team-high 36 assists, eight digs, and two blocks, while freshman Ragin Corwin had six digs and defensive specialist Brenna Kelly added four digs.
 
Central Missouri continues MIAA play Saturday, Sept. 27, as they head to Gross Memorial Coliseum for a matchup with the Fort Hays State Tigers (12-1, 1-0 MIAA) at 1:00 p.m. in Hays, Kan.
