TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – No. 10-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer had to settle for a 1-1 tie in its MIAA opener against the Northeastern State University RiverHawks on Friday, Sept. 26, at DeLoache Field.
The Jennies (3-2-2, 0-0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to play at Rogers State (0-2-3) on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. in Claremore, Okla.
Mikayla Ernst netted what turned out to be UCM's lone goal of the contest, taking an assist from
Izzy Joyce and slotting it into the back of the net in the ninth minute, putting Central Missouri on top early, 1-0. It was Ernst's team-best ninth goal of the season and her seventh goal in the last three matches.
UCM was able to maintain its lead until the 88th minute when the RiverHawk's Brynn Baldon scored off a free kick from NSU goalkeeper Rebecca Partyka, leveling the match, 1-1.
For the match, the Jennies outshot Northeastern State (5-1-1, 0-0-1 MIAA), 8-7, but the RiverHawks bested UCM in shots on goal, 6-4. Both teams took three corner kicks in the contest.
