ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Jordan Pachot threw for 401 yards and tallied four touchdowns, lifting University of Central Missouri Mules Football to a 34-26 victory over the Missouri Western State University Griffons in the MIAA opener for both teams on Saturday evening, Sept. 20, at Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium.
The Mules (1-2, 1-0 MIAA) are scheduled to return home to Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field to host the Missouri Southern Lions (2-1, 0-1 MIAA) for the annual UCM Family Weekend game on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m.
Pachot, a senior quarterback from Highland, Calif., went 33-for-51 for his 401 yards and completed touchdown passes of three, four, and 66 yards in his first start of the season for UCM. He also ran for a three-yard touchdown, for his four TDs for the game.
Central Missouri fell behind 10-0 after the first quarter but outscored the Griffons in the second quarter, 24-9, and gained a 24-19 lead after
Will Peacock converted a 40-yard field goal going into halftime.
The Mules kept the offensive surge going in the third quarter, outscoring the Griffons (1-2, 0-1 MIAA), 10-0, before Missouri Western pulled within eight points in the fourth quarter, but were stopped on fourth down as time expired, sealing the win for UCM.
Hogan Wasson had nine catches for 110 receiving yards and recorded a touchdown, while
Jake Weber tallied 80 yards on six catches, and
Latravious Boyd, and
Bo Reeves each posted touchdown receptions, rounding out the UCM offensive leaders.
Abreham Hoskins III had 10 tackles, and
Isaac Montgomery and
Trenton Bell added nine tackles, and
Keiair Lewis recovered a fumble, leading Central Missouri defensively.
The Mules outgained MoWest, 465 yards to 399 yards, including a 401-243 advantage in passing yards. Both Central Missouri and Missouri Western tallied 26 first downs in the contest.
Kane Donovan was 27-for-46 for 243 yards, and Brandon Hall ran for 94 yards on 17 carries, pacing MWSU.
