WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Donovyn Omolo threw for 295 yards, and
Latravious Boyd rushed for 114 yards and tallied two touchdowns, leading the University of Central Missouri Mules Football Team to a 62-10 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions during the annual UCM Family Weekend game on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.
The Mules (2-2, 2-0 MIAA) are scheduled to travel to No. 15 Central Oklahoma (2-2, 2-1 MIAA) for a MIAA contest on Saturday night, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in Edmond, Okla., at Chad Richison Stadium.
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead when Omolo scampered into the end zone on a 32-yard run with 9:21 to go in the first quarter, Central Missouri outscored Missouri Southern, 35-7, in the second quarter and took control of the game for good en route to the 62-10 triumph.
Keyon Butler compiled a touchdown on a one-yard run with 14:10, opening UCM's offensive surge in the second quarter, before Boyd scored back-to-back rushing TDs on a 63-yard run (11:13) and 15-yard run (6:21), ballooning the Mules' advantage to 28-7.
Marlon Lindsey, Jr., reeled in a 20-yard feed from Omolo, then
Trey Patrick provided the exclamation point in the second quarter, intercepting a Lion pass and returning it 30 yards to the house just before halftime for Central Missouri's first defensive touchdown since last season at Emporia State, giving the home team a 42-7 lead at the break.
Central Missouri didn't let up in the second half, outscoring the Lions, 20-3, to seal the win.
Omolo finished the game 31-of-42 with one passing and one rushing touchdown, 295 passing yards and 31 rushing yards, Boyd posted a career-high 114 rushing yards on nine carries with his two touchdowns,
Jayden Lang rushed for a career-best 67 yards on 11 attempts,
LaAngelo Bell had 63 yards on 11 carries, and Butler posted 39 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns, rounding out the UCM offensive leaders in the contest.
Patrick had two interceptions,
Izziek Chandler posted an interception,
Garrett Hormann tallied eight tackles, including a quarterback sack and forced a fumble, and
Max Toia recovered a fumble, leading Central Missouri defensively.
The Mules outgained the Lions in the game, 620 yards to 277 yards, including a 325-116 advantage in rushing and 295-161 lead in passing, and recorded 41 first downs while limiting MSSU to just 20 first downs in the contest. Central Missouri also won the time-of-possession battle, 36:56 to 23:04.
UCM's 620 yards of total offense were the most since the Mules compiled 781 yards of offense against Missouri Southern last season, and Central Missouri's 325 rushing yards marked the most yards on the ground since 2023 at Lincoln when UCM posted 370 rushing yards.
Tillman Martin went 10-of-24 for 125 yards with a touchdown, leading Missouri Southern (2-2, 0-2 MIAA) in the game.
