ALLENDALE, Mich. – Two second-half goals helped the No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers post a 2-1 win over No. 17-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14, at the GVSU Soccer Field.
The Jennies (1-2-1) will look to bounce back when they host Ouachita Baptist (1-2-1) for their 2025 home opener on Friday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Central Missouri gained an early 1-0 lead just three minutes into the match when
Aspen Patterson slotted home assists from
Mikayla Ernst and
Gracie Knight for her first goal of the season.
UCM maintained the 1-0 advantage until nine minutes into the second half, when the Lakers' Alli French equalized the match, 1-1, with a goal in the 54th minute.
Ten minutes later, in the 64th minute, Grand Valley State took the lead on a goal from Ivy Wilhelm.
Central Missouri was only able to tally one shot the remainder of the contest, which was saved by GVSU goalkeeper Macie Hunter, sealing the Lakers' win.
Patterson paced UCM offensively for the game with her goal, going along with two shots on goal.

Kristen Wright (1-2-1) suffered the setback between the posts for the Jennies, giving up two goals while making six saves in 90 minutes.
Hunter (1-0-0) earned the win in goal for Grand Valley State, giving up no goals while compiling one save in the second half.
For the match, the Lakers (3-1-0) outshot the Jennies, 19-7, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal, and won the corner kick battle, 11-2.
