WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (30-18, 14-10 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Rockhurst Hawks (16-22, 12-12 GLVC) winning game one by a final score of 4-3 Tuesday, April 22, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
The Jens return to the diamond for the 2025 MIAA Softball Championships beginning Wednesday, April 30, hosted by Fort Hays State University from Fleharty Family Field in Hays, Kan.
Game 1: Central Missouri 4, Rockhurst 3
The Jens grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with the 100
th career hit for
Taylor Thompson; a two-run shot to center field that scored
Jadyn Sheffield. Central Missouri doubled the advantage in the sixth beginning with a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Morgan Shields before a pinch-hit dinger from
Breanna Newton made it 4-0 Jens.
Rockhurst responded with three runs in the seventh but were unable to complete the comeback thanks to the 17
th complete game from
Brooke Weimer (13-8) who tied her career-best 13 strikeouts while Thompson paced the Jens offensively with a multi-hit performance in the winning effort.
Game 2: Rockhurst 5, Central Missouri 2
Bailey Brumley's RBI single to center field that scored
Lexi Blackmon in the bottom of the first gave Central Missouri a 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered with three runs in the top of the fourth before Brumley's RBI sac-fly (scoring
Carly Youngblood) cut the deficit to one.
Rockhurst added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and never relinquished as
Emily Brouse (9-5) suffered the loss in the circle while Blackmon and Brumley paced the Jens offensively with two hits each in the ballgame.
