WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (29-17, 14-10 MIAA) swept a pair of games over the Newman Jets (7-39, 2-18 MIAA) winning by final scores of 8-0 (6 inn.) and 9-2 Friday, April 18, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
After the conclusion of game two, UCM honored five senior players for their contributions to the program including
Breanna Newton,
Laney Killpack,
Morgan Shields,
Carly Youngblood, and
Emily Brouse.
The Jens return to the diamond Tuesday, April 22, as they host the Rockhurst Hawks (15-21, 12-12 GLVC) for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 8, Newman 0 (6 inn.)
Thanks to a lead-off triple from
Lexi Blackmon in the bottom of the first,
Jadyn Sheffield's sacrifice fly gave the Jens a 1-0 lead before Shields doubled the UCM advantage with a solo shot to center field in the fourth.
The Jens scored five runs in the fifth beginning with a Sheffield RBI double that scored Killpack followed by a three-run blast from
Taylor Thompson before a bases-loaded walk from
Emma McCall made it 7-0 UCM.
The last run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the sixth as Shields' second RBI of the ballgame came with a bases-loaded walk as
Brooke Weimer (12-8) allowed just one hit while striking out three as
Bailey Brumley, Thompson, and Blackmon paced UCM offensively collecting two hits each.
Game 2: Central Missouri 9, Newman 2
The Jens opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI single off the bat of Youngblood that scored
Aly Hageman.
Central Missouri plated six runs in the third inning started by a bases-loaded walk from Newton (scoring
Teelie Super) followed by another RBI single from Youngblood making it 3-0. The next batter was Blackmon who kept the line moving with an RBI single to right field followed by a wild pitch that scored Newton making it 5-0 Jens. Sheffield delivered with an RBI groundout before Brumley's RBI double to center made it a seven-run advantage.
Newman answered with two runs in the fifth, before
Marisa Johnson's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth ended the scoring as the Jens picked up their 29
th win of 2025 thanks to five innings from Brouse (9-4) who collected her 100
th strikeout of the season while seniors Shields, Newton, and Youngblood had multi-hit performances for good measure.
