QUINCY, Ill. – The Central Missouri Jennies (26-16, 11-9 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Quincy Hawks (7-35, 3-19 GLVC) winning by final scores of 7-1 and 16-2 (5 inn.) Wednesday, April 16, from Mart Heinen Softball Complex in Quincy.
The Jens continue MIAA play Thursday, April 17, as they host No. 5 Central Oklahoma Bronchos (39-6, 16-2 MIAA) for Military Appreciation Day with game one's first pitch slate for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 7, Quincy 1
The Jens scored three runs in the opening frame of the ballgame beginning with an RBI double from
Bailey Brumley before doubling the advantage with a bases-loaded walk from
Marisa Johnson followed by an RBI sac-fly off the bat of
Aly Hageman.
After Quincy plated a run in the fourth, UCM answered with a pair of runs in the fifth as
Lexi Blackmon scored from third on a wild pitch before a sacrifice fly from
Morgan Shields scored
Jadyn Sheffield. With one on and one out in the top of the sixth,
Laney Killpack belted her first homer of the season making it 7-1 Jens.
Aly Hageman paced UCM offensively, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with an RBI and a run scored while
Brooke Weimer (10-8) picked up the victory in the circle striking out five Hawks batters while
Andi Siebeneck tossed four innings in relief allowing just two hits and striking out five in the winning effort.
Game 2: Central Missouri 16, Quincy 2 (5 inn.)
Central Missouri opened the scoring in game two in the top of the first with an RBI double from
Bailey Brumley before
Marisa Johnson's fielder's choice doubled the lead followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hageman scored
Taylor Thompson.
The Hawks answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but UCM quickly responded with bases loaded and nobody out in the second, scoring seven runs in the inning highlighted by RBI doubles from Shields and
Anna Lee Kulka while Brumley, Thompson (two), and Johnson all plated runs making it a 10-1 lead.
Carly Youngblood belted her first homer of the season, a solo shot in the top of the fourth making it a 10-run advantage before Quincy scored a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Jens added five runs in the top of the fifth beginning with an RBI single from Brumley before Thompson belted a two-run shot, her team-leading seventh round tripper on the year followed by a two-RBI single from
Emma McCall en route to the victory.
Brumley (2-0) picked up the win in the circle tossing five innings allowing three hits while striking out four Hawk batters while collecting two hits at the plate alongside Thompson (game-high four RBI) pacing the Jens offensively in the ballgame.
