WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (23-15, 10-8 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Missouri Southern Lions (30-14, 10-6 MIAA) winning game two by a final score of 6-5 (9 inn.) Friday, April 11, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jens continue MIAA play Saturday, April 12, as they take on No. 23 Pittsburg State Gorillas (32-10, 13-3 MIAA) for a doubleheader with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Missouri Southern 3, Central Missouri 1 (10 inn.)
The Lions got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth, but
Brooke Weimer's RBI single to right center field in the bottom of the frame tied the ballgame at one.
MSSU plated two runs in the top of the tenth and never relinquished as Weimer (9-7) suffered the loss in the circle as eight Jens recorded a hit in the contest for good measure.
Game 2: Central Missouri 6, Missouri Southern 5 (9 inn.)
Missouri Southern took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but
Morgan Shields' sixth dinger of the season tied the game in the bottom of the inning before
Taylor Thompson's three-run blast in the fourth gave the Jens a 4-1 lead.
The Lions cut the lead to one in the sixth and tied the game in the seventh before taking a 5-4 lead with a run in the ninth. With nobody on and one out in the bottom of the frame,
Breanna Newton tied the game with her first homer of the season.
After a single to right field from
Jadyn Sheffield before stealing second base advancing to third on the throw,
Bailey Brumley's walk-off RBI single through the left side of the infield gave the Jens their 23
rd victory of the season.
Andi Siebeneck (6-5) earned the victory in the circle tossing four innings in relief while six Central Missouri batters recorded a hit in the winning effort.
