Jennies Softball Splits Doubleheader with Nebraska-Kearney Sunday

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Central Missouri Jennies (9-9, 1-3 MIAA) split their doubleheader with the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (9-9, 1-1 MIAA) winning by a final score of 9-0 (5 inn.) before falling 3-2 on Sunday, March 9, during a MIAA doubleheader from Dryden Park in Kearney, Neb.  
 
The Jens return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 11, as they host the Lincoln Blue Tigers (8-10, 0-2 GLVC) for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.  
 
Game 1: Central Missouri 9, Nebraska-Kearney 0 (5 inn.)
The Jens scored four runs in the opening frame of the afternoon beginning with a Jadyn Sheffield two-run shot to center field (scoring Lexi Blackmon) before an RBI double from Morgan Shields followed by RBI single from Aly Hageman.
 
Central Missouri added two insurance runs in the third with back-to-back RBI singles from Bailey Brumley and Shields making it a six-run ballgame. The Jens made it a 9-0 in the fourth thanks to back-to-back dingers from Taylor Thompson (a two-run shot) and Marisa Johnson as Emily Brouse (3-2) picked up the victory in the circle allowing just one hit while striking out four Loper batters.
 
Four UCM batters recorded multi-hit performances including Sheffield who went 3-3 with three runs scored, while Thompson (two runs scored), Brumley (one run scored), and Shields (one run scored) recorded two hits each in the winning effort.
 
Game 2: Nebraska-Kearney 3, Central Missouri 2
Nebraska-Kearney opened the scoring in the doubleheader finale with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Jens evened the game in the fifth with a Johnson RBI groundout. The Lopers regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth and never relinquished en route to their ninth win of the season.
 
Brooke Weimer (3-5) suffered the loss in the circle striking out nine Loper batters while three Jens had multi-hit performances including Sheffield who her second three-hit game of the day scoring both runs, plus Thompson and Hageman had two hits each for good measure.
