No. 7 Jennies Basketball Advances to MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals with 70-59 Win over No. 10 Emporia State Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Reese Schaaf and Lauren Frost posted double-doubles leading seventh-seeded Central Missouri Jennies basketball to a 70-59 victory over the 10th-seeded Emporia State Lady Hornets in the first round of the MIAA Women's Basketball Championship presented by Southern Bank Wednesday evening, March 5, inside historic Municipal Auditorium.

The Jennies (17-14) advance to the quarterfinals with the win and will take on second-seeded and No. 9-ranked Fort Hays State (25-3) Thursday night, March 6, at approximately 8:15 p.m. in downtown Kansas City, Mo.

Schaaf, a junior from El Dorado Springs, Mo., tallied her team and MIAA-best 17th double-double of 2024-25 after scoring 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and a 5-of-6 showing at the free-throw line and pulling down 13 rebounds while Frost, a redshirt senior from Brooklyn Park, Minn., compiled her second double-double of the season with 14 points and a career-high tying 10 assists. Taylor Weishaar also reached double-figure rebounds with 13 boards in the contest.

For the game, the Jennies shot 41 percent from the field, going 26-of-63, and were 15-of-18 at the free-throw line for 83 percent. UCM outrebounded Emporia State (10-19), 43-40, and outscored the Lady Hornets in the paint, 38-20, and off turnovers, 12-9.

Gracie Gilpin tallied 17 points, while Katie Horyna and Jayla Cornelius each had 12 points, leading Emporia State.

The Lady Hornets shot 31 percent from the field (19-of-61), 43 percent from three-point range (9-of-21) and were 12 out of 16 at the foul line for 75 percent.
