WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (17-11, 4-4 MIAA) won a pair of games over the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (11-14, 4-6 GLVC) by final scores of 7-0 and 8-6 on Tuesday, March 25, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Jens continue MIAA play on Friday, March 28, as they take on the Northeastern State RiverHawks (10-22, 4-8 MIAA) for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for noon from RiverHawks Park in Tahlequah, Okla.
Game 1: Central Missouri 7, Missouri-St. Louis 0
The Jens got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a three-run blast off the bat of
Taylor Thompson to right center field (her third on the year) before adding a pair of runs in the fifth highlighted by a Brooke Wimer solo shot, her first as a Jen.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Weimer delivered again with an RBI single through the left side (scoring
Aly Hageman) before
Lexi Blackmon drove in the final run of the ballgame with a single to right field scoring
Breanna Newton.
Weimer (7-5) allowed just two hits and struck out six Triton batters in her team-leading 10 complete-game of the season while going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored for good measure.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Missouri-St. Louis 6
After both teams traded a run in the opening frame of the doubleheader finale, UMSL took a 5-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second and third innings. Central Missouri answered in the bottom of the third with a 2-RBI triple off the bat of
Marisa Johnson (scoring
Bailey Brumley and
Jadyn Sheffield) making it 5-3 Tritons.
Missouri-St. Louis scored a run in the top of the fourth, but the Jens quickly responded with a 2-RBI single from Thompson scoring Sheffield and
Teelie Super making it a one-run ballgame.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Jens took a 7-6 lead with back-to-back RBI walks from Weimer and Blackmon before adding another insurance run thanks to an infield single from Sheffield as
Andi Siebeneck (4-3) picked up the victory in the circle allowing just one run in 4 1/3 innings of relief.
Sheffield posted a career-high four hits with two runs scored while Johnson collected her fourth three-hit game of the year with two RBI and Thompson had a game-high three RBI and two hits in the winning effort as UCM won their fourth straight game improving to 17-11 on the year.
