WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (15-11, 4-4 MIAA) swept a pair of games over the Missouri Western Griffons (17-12, 5-5 MIAA) by final scores of 3-0 and 8-6 on Saturday, March 22, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Jens conclude a 10-game home stand on Tuesday, March 25, as they host the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (11-12, 4-6 GLVC) for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
Game 1: Central Missouri 3, Missouri Western 0
Central Missouri took the lead with a
Morgan Shields solo shot to center field (her third of the season) in the bottom of the second before doubling the lead with a
Bailey Brumley RBI single in the fifth that scored
Teelie Super.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth,
Brooke Weimer (6-5) added an insurance run with a RBI single through the right side as the sophomore picked up the victory in the circle with her first career no-hitter. The Macon, Mo. native collected her 200
th career strikeout to end a Griffon scoring threat in the fourth as she had eight total on the day.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Missouri Western 6
MWSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the opening frame of the ballgame, but the Jens quickly answered with four runs of their own in the first beginning with a Brumley RBI single before
Morgan Shields cut the deficit to one with a three-run shot to center field (scoring
Taylor Thompson and Brumley).
Central Missouri scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth beginning with a RBI single from
Lexi Blackmon scoring
Carly Youngblood before Brumley delivered with a two-RBI single followed by a wild pitch that scored
Jadyn Sheffield from third base making it an 8-5 lead.
The Griffons added a run in the top of the seventh, but were unable to complete the comeback as
Andi Siebeneck earned her first save of the season in relief of
Emily Brouse (5-3) who struck out eight batters in 6 1/3 innings while Blackmon (two runs scored and an RBI) and Brumley (three RBI and one run scored) paced UCM offensively with two hits each.
