WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (13-11, 2-4 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Northwest Missouri Bearcats (11-16, 1-5 MIAA) winning game one by a final score of 5-3 before falling 7-2 on Tuesday, March 18, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Jens return to the diamond on Thursday, March 20, as they host the Missouri Western Griffons (17-10, 5-3 MIAA) for a MIAA doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Northwest Missouri 3
Central Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first beginning with a sacrifice fly from
Morgan Shields (scoring
Jadyn Sheffield) before
Taylor Thompson's RBI double brought home
Bailey Brumley.
The Bearcats responded with a run in the second, but UCM answered in the bottom of the inning thanks to a
Lexi Blackmon sacrifice fly making it a 3-1 Jens lead. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Central Missouri made it a three-run lead with an
Aly Hageman RBI-walk before
Emma McCall drove in Brumley with a sacrifice fly en route to the Jens' 13
th win of the season.
Brooke Weimer (5-5) earned the victory in the circle with her team-leading eighth complete game of the season punching out eight Northwest batters while Brumley (two runs scored) and Hageman (one run scored) paced Central Missouri offensively with two hits each for good measure.
Game 2: Northwest Missouri 7, Central Missouri 2
After each team scored a run in the second inning, NWMSU took the lead with three runs in the third before adding one run in the sixth and two in the seventh en route to their 11
th win of the season.
Emily Brouse (4-3) suffered the loss in the circle while Blackmon (one RBI) and Thompson (one run scored) ended the ballgame with two hits each leading the Jens offensively.
