No. 3 Mules Baseball Splits Doubleheader with No. 18 Davenport Saturday

QUINCY, Ill. – Third-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball split a neutral site, non-conference doubleheader against the No. 18-ranked Davenport Panthers Saturday, March 15, at QU Stadium, dropping game one, 6-5, before winning game two, 7-5.

The Mules (17-4, 8-1 MIAA) are slated to return to MIAA play with a midweek conference contest at Northwest Missouri State (9-11, 3-5 MIAA) Tuesday, March 18, at 2 p.m. in Maryville, Mo.

In Central Missouri's 7-5 win in game two, Chase Wilcox belted a two-run homer to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead before Cole Kreisel hit an RBI single to center field to drive in Cody Moore, completing the comeback victory. The homer was Wilcox's second of the season.

Vance Tobol went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Kreisel was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, and Jacob Steele and Wilcox each drove in two runs, pacing Central Missouri at the plate in game two.

UCM reliever Sam Wyrick (2-0) earned the victory on the mound in the nightcap, allowing no earned runs on just one hit with two strikeouts in two innings.

Earlier in the day, in the Mules' 6-5 setback in game one, Davenport (12-5) scored two runs in the eighth inning to rally from a 5-3 deficit before hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

Steele went a perfect 4-for-4 with his second homer of the season and two runs while Dayvin Johnson was 2-for-5 with his third and fourth home runs of 2025 and two RBI, pacing UCM offensively in the first game.
