WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (12-10, 1-3 MIAA) swept a pair of games against the Northern State Wolves (6-9, 0-0 NSIC) winning by a final score of 15-2 (5 inn.) and 14-2 (5 inn.) on Thursday, March 13, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo. The Jens scored 29 runs on the day, making it the most scored since the 2011 season when UCM put up 28 in a doubleheader against Maryville winning by final scores of 10-1 and 18-1 in Warrensburg.
The Jens return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 18, as they host the Northwest Missouri Bearcats (10-11, 0-0 MIAA) for a MIAA doubleheader with game one's first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
Game 1: Central Missouri 15, Northern State 2 (5 inn.)
The Jens opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI double down the right field line from
Bailey Brumley, followed by a bases-loaded walk from
Marisa Johnson (scoring
Jadyn Sheffield), and capped off by a sacrifice fly from
Aly Hageman making it 3-0.
Central Missouri added four runs in the second with a bases-clearing double from
Taylor Thompson (scoring
Lexi Blackmon, Brumley, and
Morgan Shields) before Johnson added to the lead with an RBI single to right field.
Sheffield plated a pair of runs in the third with an RBI double making it a nine-run lead before a pinch-hit two-run dinger off the bat of
Teelie Super (her first collegiate round-tripper) made it 11-0. Northern State responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but the Jens answered with a pair of two-RBI doubles from Brumley and Thompson giving UCM a 13-run advantage.
Emily Brouse (4-2) earned the victory in the circle allowing just three hits while striking out eight NSU batters while Blackmon (game-high four runs scored), Thompson (game-high five RBI), and
Emma McCall (two runs scored) paced Central Missouri offensively with three hits each.
Game 2: Central Missouri 14, Northern State 2
The Wolves got on the board in the top of the first with a run that was quickly answered in the bottom of the inning with an RBI groundout from Brumley. Central Missouri took the lead with four runs in the second beginning with an RBI single from
Aly Hageman, followed by a
Breanna Newton RBI double before Blackmon plated a run with an infield single and later scored after stealing third base and advancing home on the throw making it 5-1 Jens.
Central Missouri plated nine runs in the fourth beginning with a Blackmon three-run shot to right field (scoring Newton and
Carly Youngblood) and capped off by an
Anna Lee Kulka two-RBI single to left field as Brumley (1-0) earned the victory in the circle tossing 4 1/3 innings while Blackmon and Newton had three hits, three runs scored, and three RBI for good measure.
