WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Missouri junior Garrett Lyons has been named the MIAA Co-Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, Nov. 4. Lyons shares the honor with Central Oklahoma's Jason Henschel.
Lyons opened the 2025-26 campaign with a dominant showing at the Missouri Duals in Columbia, Mo., on Sunday, Nov. 2, leading the No. 24-ranked Mules to a perfect 3-0 start to the season. Competing at 149 pounds, the Pleasant Hill, Mo., native went undefeated on the day, earning bonus-point victories in all three of his matches to help UCM post wins over Missouri Valley (38-6), Central Methodist (30-15), and Drury (30-15).
The junior began the event with an 11-1 major decision over Missouri Valley's Kristofer Arrey before tallying a 21-6 technical fall against Central Methodist's Cole Gros. Lyons capped off the day in commanding fashion, pinning Drury's Nathan Wishne in just 2:44 to secure the team sweep.
Through opening weekend, Lyons accounted for 15 team points and was instrumental in helping Central Missouri achieve its first 3-0 season-opening performance since 2021.
Lyons and the Mules return to action Saturday, Nov. 8, when they travel to Lebanon, Ill., to face McKendree University at 4 p.m.
