Winkelmann Collects 1,700th Career Dig as No. 24 Jennies Volleyball Sweeps Newman

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies (14-3, 6-1 MIAA) swept the Newman Jets (2-16, 0-7 MIAA) by a final score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-14) Saturday, Oct. 11, from Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.     
 
The Jens won the first set 25-14, highlighted by an 8-2 run capped off by a pair of libero Grace Winkelmann service aces. Winkelmann, a native of Rhineland, Mo., had a career-best six service aces while collecting a match-high 20 digs and now ranks sixth in career digs in program history with 1,705.  
 
Central Missouri began the second on a 9-2 run with kills from Bria Dawson (five kills and a season-high three blocks overall), defending MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week Kaelyn McDonald (match-best five blocks and four kills overall), and redshirt sophomore Emma Siron (four kills and two digs overall), doubling their advantage.
 
The Jens completed their eighth sweep of the season and their seventh consecutive win with a 25-14 win in the third led by three kills each from juniors Shaye Koski (team-high six kills and five digs overall) and Maya Fergerson (five kills overall).
 
Reigning MIAA Setter of the Week Kayla Baer had a match-high 25 assists, adding eight digs and two blocks, while opposite Lauren Blake contributed five kills on 10 swings (.300 hitting percentage) and three blocks overall.
 
The Jens outhit Newman by a margin of .229 to -.010 on the night as freshman Ragin Corwin collected seven digs and two assists, plus defensive specialist Brenna Kelly had four digs in the winning effort.
 
No. 24 Central Missouri continues MIAA play Thursday, Oct. 16, as they head to Whiting Fieldhouse for a top-25 matchup with No. 9 Washburn Ichabods (17-1, 6-1 MIAA), beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Topeka, Kan.
