PITTSBURG, Kan. – The No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Central Missouri Mules baseball team fell to No. 5-seeded Washburn, 11-1 in eight innings, in the semifinals of the 2024 MIAA Baseball Championship Tournament Thursday, May 9, at Al Ortolani Field on the Pittsburg State University campus.
The Mules (45-7) will face the loser of the No. 2 seed Missouri Southern vs. No. 3 seed Pittsburg State semifinal contest in an elimination game Friday, May 10, at 3 p.m. in Pittsburg, Kan.
The Ichabods (32-19) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back enroute to the victory.
Cole Moore was 1-for-3 with a double while
Jack Schark tallied an RBI, pacing UCM at the plate.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Jack Scott (4-1) suffered the setback on the mound, allowing six runs – five earned – on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk in 5 2/3 innings.
Connor Scott was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three runs and three RBIs, pacing Washburn in the batter's box.
Ichabod starter Griffin Huiatt (3-3) earned the victory on the rubber, giving up one unearned run on three hits with four strikeouts and six walks in 5 2/3 innings.
