WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 2-ranked and top-seeded Central Missouri Mules baseball tallied 18 runs on 21 hits as it rolled past No. 11-ranked and fourth-seeded Augustana (S.D.), 18-3, in an NCAA-II Central Regional winner's bracket game Friday, May 17, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
With the win, the Mules (49-8) advance to the Central Regional semifinals at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Warrensburg and will face the winner of the No. 4 seed Augustana vs. No. 5 seed Central Oklahoma elimination game, which is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Central Missouri scored five runs each in the fifth and sixth innings and added four in the seventh enroute to the victory over the Vikings.
Carter Young went 4-for-6 with a double and triple, four runs and two RBIs,
Cole Moore was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored,
Jacob Steele was 3-for-4 with four runs,
Max Holy was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs,
Jack Schark was 2-for-3 with three runs,
Chase Heath had two hits including a double and drove in two runs,
Vance Tobol compiled two hits and an RBI, and
Brennen van Breusegen hit his team-best 21st homer of the season – a two-run home run in the sixth inning, leading the Mules at the plate in the triumph.
With Young's triple, Central Missouri tied a single season record for triples with 35 in 57 games this season.
UCM right-handed starting pitcher
Jack Kriesman (6-1) earned the victory on the mound after allowing just three earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and only one walk in a career-high 7 2/3 innings pitched.
Parker Mooney was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, leading Augustana (46-9) offensively.
Augie starting pitcher Ashton Michek (8-3) suffered the setback on the rubber, surrendering eight earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 4 1/3 innings.
