WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (20-19, 9-9 MIAA) swept a doubleheader against the Newman Jets (15-25, 3-11 MIAA) winning by final scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 2-1 on Saturday, April 6, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jens return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 9, for Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night as they host the Rockhurst Hawks (9-19, 4-10 GLVC) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Jennies Field in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 8, Newman 0 (5 inn.)
The Jens took an early lead thanks to a
Taylor Thompson three-run dinger (her team-leading ninth round tripper of the year) before extending their lead with five runs in the fourth beginning with an RBI single from
Jadyn Sheffield (scoring
Halle Howes and
Aubrie McRoberts). Two batters later, Thompson delivered again with an RBI double to left center field (scoring
Hayden Serna and Sheffield) as the final run of the ballgame came off the bat of
Breanna Newton with an RBI single.
Redshirt junior
Paige Petefish (7-5) picked up her seventh win of the season as she retired a perfect 15-for-15 Jet batters at the plate for a perfect game. The Topeka, Kan. native threw her second no-hitter of the season after tossing one against Lincoln on March 19.
Thompson (career-high five RBI and two runs scored) and Howes (one run scored) led UCM offensively, collecting multi-hit games while five other Jennies reached base safely.
Game 2: Central Missouri 2, Newman 1
UCM opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Thompson that scored
Lexi Blackmon, the Jets responded with a run in the sixth tying the game at one. With two on and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Newton delivered the game-winning run with an RBI single down the right field line as the Jens picked up their 20
th victory on the year.
Brooke Weimer (7-9) picked up the win for UCM in the circle allowing just three hits and striking out a pair in relief as
Andi Siebeneck, Newton, and Thompson paced the Jennies offensively, recording multi-hit games.
