KEARNEY, Neb. – The Central Missouri Jennies (21-20, 10-10 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (15-24, 3-13 MIAA) falling by a final score of 1-0 (8 inn.) before winning 10-1 (5 inn.) on Friday, April 12, from Patriot Park in Kearney.
The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, April 13, as they continue MIAA play against the Fort Hays State Tigers (18-20, 4-12 MIAA) with first pitch of game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from Fleharty Family Field in Hays, Kan.
Game 1: Nebraska-Kearney 1, Central Missouri 0 (8 inn.)
After seven innings of play, there was still no score as the Lopers scored the lone run of the ballgame with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as they picked up their 15
th win of the season.
Sadie Parks (2-2) suffered the loss in the circle while
Lexi Blackmon,
Halle Howes, and
Laney Killpack each collected a hit to pace UCM offensively.
Game 2: Central Missouri 10, Nebraska-Kearney 1 (5 inn.)
The Jens opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first before adding six in the third beginning with an error from the UNK center fielder off the bat of
Abby Allnutt (scoring Blackmon) making it 3-0 Central Missouri.
The next batter,
Breanna Newton reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Jadyn Sheffield before Howes delivered with an RBI single that scored
MaKenzie Cooper as the Jens made it a 5-0 advantage. Two batters later with the bases loaded,
Morgan Shields made it 10-0 with a 3-RBI triple that scored
Aubrie McRoberts, Newton, and Howes.
In the fourth, UCM extended their lead with a pair of runs off the bat of Newton (scoring Cooper and
Taylor Thompson) as
Brooke Weimer (8-9) allowed one run (unearned) on four hits while striking out eight Loper batters.
Blackmon, Sheffield, and McRoberts paced UCM offensively registering multi-hit performances while nine additional Jennies reached base safely for good measure.
