Jennies Softball Splits Doubleheader with Missouri Western

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (22-25, 11-13 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Missouri Western Griffons (29-19, 11-13 MIAA) dropping game one by a final score of 5-2 before winning game two 3-2, on Friday, April 26, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, April 27, as they conclude the regular season hosting the Northwest Missouri Bearcats (27-23, 14-10 MIAA) for Senior Day with first pitch of game one scheduled for 11:00 a.m. from Jennies Field.

Game 1: Missouri Western 5, Central Missouri 2
The Jens opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run homer from Taylor Thompson (her team-leading 10th of the year), but Missouri Western tied the game with a pair of runs in the second before adding a run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh.

Paige Petefish (7-6) suffered the loss in the circle allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four in five innings of work while Thompson paced UCM offensively going 2-for-3 in the ballgame.

Game 2: Central Missouri 3, Missouri Western 2
Central Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Griffon error scoring one before an Abby Allnutt RBI single doubled the advantage. MWSU cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the fifth, but the Jens quickly answered with a solo shot of their own from Hayden Serna (her second of the season) making it a 3-1 lead.

The Griffons plated a run in the sixth but were unable to tie the game thanks to a complete-game performance from Brooke Weimer (9-10) who allowed just three hits while striking out four batters while Allnutt and Serna paced UCM offensively going 2-for-3 for good measure.
